For more than 20 years, National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month has worked to improve the lives of millions of Americans in need of treatment and recovery service.  Today, we celebrate individuals who have achieved long-term recovery and acknowledge those working in the field who provide the treatment and recovery services.
The 2012 theme, “It’s Worth It!” highlights the physical, emotional, economic, and social benefits that health reform will bring to individuals, families, and communities.   Treatment and recovery improve our Community’s welfare and provide a renewed outlook on life for those who struggle with substance use disorders as well as helping their family and friends understand the disease.

To help achieve our goals of awareness and recovery, our 2012 Recovery Celebration will be the kickoff to the rebirth of an active and effective Recovery Advocacy Group; one that will focus on education, legislative awareness and community needs.  Our Recovery Celebration, held Thursday, September 6th, 3:00 pm at the Drug Education Council will feature a panel discussion of ~ where we have been, where we are today and where we are going in Recovery. The presentation of our Spirit of Recovery Awards will follow.  Please join us as we recognize those who have played such a crucial and positive role, serving as a true inspiration for those in recovery and those on the path to recovery.  For more information on the Recovery Advocacy Group, please contact Patricia Finkbohner, 650-0605.

September 4, 2012, Mayor Sam Jones and the Mobile City Council issued a proclamation recognizing the month of September 2012 as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.  Our Mobile County Commission issued a similar Proclamation,
